Hi there Aunt Vadge,
I had an abnormal pap smear and then two biopsies. Do you know if there are any natural cures or supplements that might help me? I’m waiting for my results.
Yours,
Waiting
Hi there Waiting,
The most useful thing is to wait for your results, because until then none of us knows exactly what we’re dealing with – and there’s a real chance they come back clear. Once you have a diagnosis, your doctor will lay out the options, which often means either watchful waiting with a repeat test in six months, or a small procedure like a LEEP or LLETZ to remove the affected cells.
I’ll assume it was your cervix that was biopsied, since an abnormal pap smear means abnormal cervical cells (the cervix and the vagina are different places). If they’ve caught abnormal cells early, there’s a very good chance a minor procedure clears them and you’re absolutely fine.
That’s the whole point of pap smears – they catch changes really early, so treatment tends to be mild and minor, leaving you well, fertile and with your cervix intact.
Waiting is nerve-wracking, so arm yourself with information. Our article on HPV and pap tests will help you understand what’s going on, and there’s more on the tests themselves in our diagnostic procedures guide. Understanding it all means you can ask your doctor really good questions about your diagnosis and treatment.
On the natural side: since most cervical cell changes are driven by HPV, there are naturopathic ways to support your cervical and immune health that can sit alongside your medical care, never in place of it. These are best matched to your own situation and results rather than picked off a generic list, so if you’d like tailored guidance once you know where you stand, you’re welcome to book an appointment with us.
Write any time, and I hope your results bring good news.
Warmest regards,
Aunt Vadge
