Hello Aunt Vadge!
I need help. Last week my boyfriend fingered me for the first time. Since then, every time I’m turned on, a transparent liquid with bubbles, a bit like saliva, comes out in large quantities. Is this normal, or should I see a doctor about an infection?

Dear Bubbly,
Wonderful news – this is completely normal and actually rather lovely: you’ve discovered your own arousal fluid. The fact that it only appears when you’re turned on is the giveaway that it’s healthy, not an infection.
That clear, watery, slightly bubbly liquid comes largely from your Skene’s glands, which sit near the urethra and the internal arms of the clitoris (the ‘g-spot’ area). When that area gets stimulated – as it did with fingering for the first time – the glands release this fluid.
It’s the same family of secretion people mean when they talk about ‘squirting’ or female ejaculation, and producing a lot of it is a sign everything is working beautifully, not that anything’s wrong.
So enjoy it – it makes everything more comfortable and is nothing to be embarrassed about (a towel underneath solves the only practical issue!).
Just so you know the difference for the future: this fluid is clear, comes with arousal, and has no smell. The kind worth checking is discharge that’s there all the time, coloured (white and clumpy, grey, green/yellow), itchy or smelly – none of which you have. You’re perfectly fine.
Best,
Aunt Vadge
