Acinetobacter calcoaceticus urinary tract and vulvovaginal infections

Acinetobacter calcoaceticus is an emerging hospital-acquired infection that can develop biofilms and can cause urinary tract infections.

Originally found in dirt, it is also understood to be a commensal gut bacterium, but is an opportunistic pathogen which will cause infection if it gets half a chance.

With A. baumannii, they are referred to as the A. calcoaceticus-A. baumannii complex. At present, vulvovaginal infections with this microbe appear to be very rare.
