  • Isolated from the human vagina and urinary tract
  • Cause of urinary tract infections​1​
  • Related to hospital stays and catheterisation​2​
  • Commensal of mammal skin​3​
  • Grows best at between 30-40 °C
  • Possible cause of miscarriages in cows and humans
  • Associated with vertebral discitis, urinary tract infection, meningitis, bone infections, ventricular shunt infections and infective endocarditis
  • Often considered a contaminant in other samples, but it’s difficult to know if this is accurate
