Hey Aunt Vadge,
I’ve had a yeast infection for roughly a month. I saw a doctor, who prescribed some medicine and told me to put nappy-rash cream down there. It’s been about a week since I saw her, but it still burns a bit. I’m not sure if this helps, but I have masturbated in the past, though not in quite some time.
I hope that’s detailed enough — thank you for reading, and have a lovely day!
Yours sincerely,
Yeasty

Dear Yeasty,
A yeast infection that’s still burning a week after starting treatment isn’t unusual — these can take a little while to fully settle, and the soothing barrier cream your doctor suggested (the nappy-rash cream) is a sensible move, because it protects the sore, inflamed skin while the antifungal does its work.
So a bit of lingering burn at one week doesn’t necessarily mean anything has gone wrong; it may just need a few more days.
That said, a clear plan from here: First, keep being gentle with the area while it heals: wash with plain water only, no soap or scented products, wear loose cotton, and keep using the barrier cream to calm the skin.
Second — and this is the important one — if the burning hasn’t cleared within another week or so, or it comes back, go back to your doctor rather than treating it on and on yourself.
A swab can confirm it really is yeast and identify the strain, because a stubborn or less common strain needs a different antifungal, and burning that won’t settle sometimes turns out to be irritation or another cause rather than yeast at all.
You’ve done the right things so far; just give it a little more time, keep it gentle, and circle back to your doctor if it doesn’t fully clear. You can read more about settling yeast symptoms on our at-home yeast relief page in the meantime.
Warmest regards,
Aunt Vadge
