Dear Aunty Vadge,
I started masturbating because I was curious about my body and then did it at least once every two weeks because I liked it.
A couple of months ago, I started to insert a finger into myself (before it was only the clitoris). The other day, I decided to try two fingers.
Then, my vagina started to really burn around the edges. I looked at it using a mirror and I believe I ripped my hymen.
I am not sure that is the correct term for what part of my vagina I’m referring to but the place that got ripped it the outermost part of my vagina that surrounds pretty much everything else.
Best,
J.

Dear J,
When you first start putting things into your vagina, you can easily hurt yourself. The beauty of the trial and error is that you learn what you can and can’t do to yourself.
You may have encountered your hymen. We have a guide on how to understand and manipulate your hymen, so next time, try it. If nothing happens, it wasn’t your hymen.
When you’re touching yourself, make sure to use some sort of lubricant, as it makes it a little smoother.
If your symptoms worsen, visit a doctor to see why. But, luckily, vulvar tissue heals very quickly and without scarring, so your vagina and vulva will no doubt heal up without issue.
Best,
Aunt Vadge
