Hi Aunt Vadge,
I began my period this morning as normal and put a tampon in. It was a little uncomfortable but I was fine. About an hour later I soaked through my pants. I took the tampon out and it was barely wet but the string was soaked. I put another tampon in but continued to bleed. I think I may have cut myself but I can’t tell.
Sincerely,
Soaked

Dear Soaked,
That seems like a lot of bleeding on a tampon string and not much bleeding on the tampon. That does sound very mysterious indeed, and unusual. You may have cut yourself, but that sounds like a lot of blood for a cut that you aren’t sure you even did. Do you have any pain?
If the bleeding continues, it would be wise to first examine yourself with a hand mirror and torch, and then depending on what you find, go and get checked by someone who can take a better look than you.
Have a feel around and see if you can find a cut or some source of the bleeding – there will be a tender spot. Usually your clotting mechanisms will kick in at some point to stop the bleeding, but finding the source is important regardless. It seems like a lot of blood.
Let me know how you go, and write back anytime.
Warmest regards,
Aunt Vadge
