Hi Aunt Vadge,
I’d like to know if I’m just late or pregnant. My boyfriend and I were messing around and his penis touched my vagina – just the tip. It was 14 February and my last period was 1–7 February, and it was irregular. I haven’t got my period yet and I don’t have pregnancy symptoms. So, am I late or pregnant?

From what you’ve described, pregnancy is very unlikely: the tip touching the outside of your vagina, with no ejaculation inside, isn’t a route for live sperm to get where it needs to go, so the odds are firmly in your favour.
And the much more likely reason your period hasn’t shown is sitting right there in your letter – your periods are irregular.
When your cycle is irregular, ‘late’ is hard to even define, because ovulation (and so your period) naturally lands on a different day each month, so a period that hasn’t come when you expected is usually just your irregular cycle doing its irregular thing, especially with no pregnancy symptoms.
That said, the only way to turn ‘very unlikely’ into ‘certain’ is a test – they’re cheap, quick and accurate by now, from any pharmacy, supermarket or online – so if it would settle your mind, take one and you’ll know in five minutes.
It’s also well worth learning how you do and don’t get pregnant, so a near-miss like a tip touching the outside won’t send you into a spin again. I’m confident you’re fine – take the test for peace of mind, then let it go.
