Best silicone lube brands

Choosing a silicone lube isn’t too hard, since there are some really great lubes on the market to choose from. Expect to pay a bit more than water-based lube, but you don’t need much silicone lube so it can be very cost effective to buy a nice bottle – it’ll last for ages.

Silicone lube doesn’t absorb or dry up, and the particles are very small, so it’s very smooth, lasts for a long time, and you have to actually wash it off to get rid of it, even in the shower (you need soap).

It does stain fabrics, but with a bit of effort you can get the stains out.

When not to use silicone lube

Silicone lube should not be used with silicone sex toys – it will make them go weird, because science happens when less than 100 per cent silicone toys are used with silicone lubricant. Even two not-100-per-cent-silicone sex toys will start to do science together if they are stored touching – silicone particles bond to each other.

Science in this case means the toys start to melt, go sticky, or smell funny, and then you have to bin them. It’s not that only medical grade silicone toys are good, but you just need to be careful. This means any toy that has a small amount of silicone in it is off the cards too, with this being common in ‘realistic’ type toys. Check the manufacturer’s website or the back of the box for more information.

Some good quality silicone sex toys and good quality lube are fine to use, for example Pjur and We-Vibe Toys did an experiment and have declared that We-Vibe’s silicone sex toys are safe to use with Pjur’s silicone lubes.

Medical grade silicone and silicone lube should not react, however if you aren’t sure and like your toys, opt for being on the safe side and keep ’em separated. You can use silicone lube during sex with condoms, bareback, with medical grade silicone toys, and with non-silicone sex toys.
