Using Serralase biofilm enzymes in BV or AV treatments (Killing BV)

Please note we now recommend our oral biofilm treatment over Serralase for treating biofilms associated with bacterial vaginosis (BV) and aerobic vaginitis (AV). It works to clear biofilms using a mixture of enzymes and herbs for the best effect.

Serralase (Klaire Labs) is a solid systemic biofilm buster. ‘Systemic’ means it is absorbed into your bloodstream and can get beyond your digestive system to vaginal or penile biofilms.

Please read all of this information because you need to be across your treatments so you know what you are doing and why.

Serralase can be used in conjunction with any other treatments but is best used with the other enzyme product, Nattokinase. Nattokinase breaks down excess fibrin, part of the matrix in many biofilms. This tag-team combination works to break down two types of biofilm matrix.

Serralase is designed to:

  • Support tissue repair and maintenance
  • Trigger tissue repair
  • Breaks down cellular ‘junk’ (debris) around cells
  • Supports healthy blood supply
  • Speed cell repair
  • Break down biofilms
  • Clear mucous

How does Serralase help vaginal infections and biofilms?

Serralase helps tissue affected by infection, inflammation and allergens by breaking down pro-inflammatory compounds (small peptides, complex proteins).

Catalase, one of the enzymes in this mixture, turns hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water, which are both harmless.

Hydrogen peroxide can have a negative effect when in body tissues, as opposed to helpful hydrogen peroxide that protective lactobacilli bacteria produce to deter other bacteria, for example.

How Serralase enzymes work

The Serralase enzyme blend is proteolytic, which means it breaks down proteins. Proteolytic enzymes help digest food in your digestive tract, so Serralase is also used in some people to support digestion.

We utilise these enzymes for BV or AV treatments for metabolic purposes, which is why you must take the tablets between meals. If you take them with food, they’ll go about helping you digest your meals instead of going to work on your biofilms.

When you take the enzymes between meals (on an empty stomach), the enzymes are loaded into the bloodstream intact, travelling through the blood and lymph to inflamed tissue. Here the magic happens.

The enzymes support healthy cell function by improving blood flow (reducing impediments), supporting tissue restoration, breaking down inflammatory debris around cells, and activating cell repair. This process speeds tissue healing and boosts cells’ innate immunity.

Your innate immunity is a key part of defending your cells from attachment by microbes. Your cells have their own defence systems in place, which pathogens modify or block so that the microbe can attach. This process can leave your cells defenceless.

In the case of inflammation in the vagina and vulva, these enzymes can help reduce symptoms of inflammation, including itching and soreness.

Suggested oral dose of Serralase

The manufacturer’s suggested oral dose for an intensive treatment (which is recommended for treating vaginal infections) is six tablets maximum daily, taken on an empty stomach/between meals, in two doses (three in the morning and three at night).

The enzymes come in a 90 or 180-tablet jar, and all the tablets should be taken in a course.

How to use Serralase

  • Do not chew Serralase
  • Do not use Serralase directly in or on the vulva, vagina or penis
  • Reduce the dose by half if you experience unpleasant side effects associated with biofilm degradation
  • Stop using Serralase if you have an adverse reaction

Warnings, contraindications and possible side effects

  • Serralase is considered very safe for most people.
  • There is a theoretical drug interaction with those on antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicine, who may have an increased risk of bleeding.
  • If you have a history of allergy to pineapple or papaya, do not use Serralase.
  • Take with caution if you also take aspirin, NSAID, or anticoagulants.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your healthcare practitioner before using these enzymes.
  • If you have an underlying health condition or a complex medical history, we suggest seeking professional guidance on biofilm protocols.
  • If you are taking prescription drugs, talk to your healthcare provider to ensure you are being safe.
