Using manuka honey – penis (Killing BV)

How to use manuka honey on the penis

Manuka honey is a bee product that has many antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and other important properties.

The honey is used as a penis rub that can be used during bareback or protected (barriered) sex.

Safety first, kids!

Manuka honey may be intolerable to some skin and in those with certain allergies. Do a skin test if you’re sensitive, and if irritation or allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use. Adverse outcomes are uncommon.

Instructions for manuka honey penis treatment

  1. Manuka honey is stable at room temperature.
  2. To use as a penis rub, scoop out two pea-sized amounts (or as needed based on surface area and comfort) and warm between your hands.
  3. There should be enough manuka honey on the skin to leave a coating.
  4. Apply the warmed honey to the penis and scrotum, ensuring attention is paid to nooks and crannies, and in particular, underneath the foreskin if it exists. BV-related microbes have been found inside and all over the penis and scrotum. Be thorough.
  5. Leave the manuka honey on for at least five minutes, but as long as possible/practical.
  6. Repeat every day or night until the 250g jar is empty, but no less than seven days.

If you have urethral symptoms

If you have urethral symptoms, you will likely need oral treatments too, such as Hiprex or the Four-pronged Approach enzymes, since this mixture can only get so far into your penis. Sex with treatments in helps with this, but it’s not always practical or available.

Sex during treatments

Do not have bareback sex with your partner(s) without the treatment present and do not ejaculate inside the vagina until later down the track when treatment is complete and is believed to have been successful (three months). It’s best if you are both using the same treatment, but not essential.

Can I stop the treatment early if my partner’s symptoms seem to be gone?

No. Your treatment is separate from your partner’s.

Can I skip treatments if I have something on?

Yes, but try not to, and add an extra day. Sometimes it’s necessary to skip treatments – if you are away from home for a night or a week, on holiday, or otherwise busy doing stuff, you can skip treatments. But, don’t skip more than one. If you need to skip days, consider rescheduling treatments.
