Hi Aunt Vadge,

Well, to start off, I have these very firm bumps by my vulva. I don’t know if it’s an STI or just pimples. Some have popped, some haven’t.

Then, my clit is swollen with cuts on it and I am really concerned.

Hi there V,

If you suspect you could have a sexually transmitted infection, then you need to go and get a test. Also, your clitoris doesn’t sound like its having a very good time, with swelling and cuts, which also needs to be checked out by a doctor.

Sorry – I know it would be great if I could give you all the answers right now! But some problems require the experienced eye of a doctor, who will be able to ask you lots of questions and do tests.

It’s a little tricky to get into healthcare at the moment with quarantine, but you sound like you have an issue that warrants a check-up.

I do understand that you are 14 and may not be able to get yourself to the doctor, but it’s really important that you figure out how to do that. Perhaps ask a family friend, relative or friend to help you.

There are Planned Parenthood clinics and other sexual health clinics around that can help you for free, but your age may present some hindrances without having a guardian present. We are in Australia, so are not completely across what the guidelines are for younger patients in your healthcare system.

Ask someone you trust for help here – you need to see a doctor, and the sooner the better (unless you are in New York!).
